Crazy Addictive Buttered Rum Pretzel Bark is an easy and quick dessert to make for the holidays. Your family and friends won’t be able to resist the combination of sweet and salty flavors. I dare you to eat just one!
Dude, this Crazy Addictive Buttered Rum Pretzel Bark is awesomeballs. Forget amazeballs, I’m trying to make awesomeballs happen. You can kiss your diet goodbye because this bark is irresistible. I’m literally typing this post while noshing on some bark. I’m about to go grab another piece, its lure is too much for me to handle right now. I’ll be right back…
Mmmm, this stuff is crazy addictive! In my opinion, nothing beats the combination of sweet and salty flavors in a dessert. The main ingredients in this recipe are pretzels, pecans, chocolate, butter, and brown sugar, however, I add depth to the flavor with the addition of vanilla, rum, and a dash of cinnamon. This recipe is remarkably easy to make and ridiculously impossible to resist.
OMG, I’m so excited you guys. Our good friends Phoebe and Eric moved to Wisconsin but are coming back to visit all of their friends in the area. We have plenty of room so we offered for them to stay with us. Phoebe and Eric is the couple who helped us tear down the wall between our kitchen and dining room.
Kieran and I are excited about Phoebe and Eric visiting for a multitude of reasons. First, they are outstanding people. When they lived in Portland they were always there to lend a helping hand when we needed it. Second, they are hysterical and an utter joy to be around. Phoebe not only accepts my perverted humor, she encourages it! That girl makes my cheeks and stomach hurt with laughter every time I see her, I love it. Third, we get to see their adorable daughter Seren. We met Seren when she was first born, but I can’t wait to see her now. Seren is going to be a hilarious baby if she’s anything like her parents 🙂
Phoebe and Eric lived in Portland for roughly 8 years before they moved to Wisconsin to work their dream job. Over those 8 years, they have made tons of great friends. They obviously want to see as many friends as possible during their visit so I offered to host a party at our house. The theme of the party will be a boozey brunch potluck (my kind of party). I’m crazy excited to host another party. I should really host parties for a living, I love it. I told Phoebe I’m in charge of the cheese board!
I’m going to serve this Crazy Addictive Buttered Rum Pretzel Bark at the party too. I’m sure I can resist eating the remaining bark until the party.
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!
Yeah right, like any of us believes that! This batch of bark will be devoured before I can finish writing this damn post! I’ll have to whip up another batch for the party. Speaking of this batch, I’ll be right back…
Damn, this Crazy Addictive Buttered Rum Pretzel Bark is tasty AF. Someone, please help me. Take the bark far, far away from me! I can’t be trusted around it. It’s sweet and salty siren sings out for me. I’ll be right back…
OK, I think I can control myself for the remainder of this post. I need to focus and push the thought of its deliciousness out of my mind. You can do this Christina, concentrate woman!
I love recipes like this because it’s so easy to adapt them to your personal preference. Do you have a gluten allergy? Simple, swap almonds for the pretzels. Want to add some fruit? Awesome, throw in some dried fruit. Want to dress the bark up so it looks all fancy? Simple, add festive sprinkles. Actually, in hindsight, I wish I would have added either white or green and red sprinkles to the top of the bark. It would have added a festive touch! Balls, maybe next time.
I love this bark so much because it’s both sweet and salty and soft and crunchy. The flavors and textures dance on your tongue creating the ultimate tastebuds party in your mouth! This bark is probably one of the best desserts I’ve ever made! If you love toffee and chocolate mixed with crunchy pretzels and a little bit of rum, you are going to adore this recipe. Remember to proceed your mouth with caution because once you take a bite you’ll be hooked!
Thanks for stopping by,
Christina

- 4 cups of mini pretzels or enough pretzels to lay in a single layer on your cookie sheet
- 1 cup chopped pecans I got mine in the bulk section at Winco to save money
- 1 1/2 cups of butter
- 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons of light rum
- A dash of cinnamon
- 16 oz of semi-sweet chocolate chips melted (plus a handful more for sprinkling)
Ingredients

- First, make sure you have enough room in your fridge for your cookie sheet full of bark.
- Then preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper (don't use tinfoil otherwise the bark will stick)
- Dump the pretzels onto the parchment paper and spread them out in an even layer. It's OK if a few of them overlap. Now sprinkle the pecans over the pretzels, as evenly as you can. Set aside until needed.
- In a large pot melt the butter over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted add the brown sugar and stir until the mixture is well combined. Turn up the heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Let the mixture boil, without stirring, for 5-7 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and carefully stir in the vanilla extract and rum. The toffee will sputter and bubble when you do this, so be careful. Add the cinnamon and stir one last time.
- Carefully pour the toffee over the pretzels and pecans then place the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes. Pull the cookie sheet out of the oven and let it cool while you melt your chocolate.
- Once the chocolate is melted pour it, as evenly as you can, over the toffee covered pretzels. Use a knife or an offset spatula to spread the chocolate in an even layer. Finish by sprinkling some chocolate chips over the melted chocolate.
- Place the cookie sheet in your fridge for approx 4 hours to allow the bark to set.
- Once the bark is completely cool and set, break it up into bite-size pieces and enjoy!

Woah. My mind is literally blown at the thought of this dessert right now! I love toffee…like it’s probably my all-time favorite dessert. (Granted, that’s a long list of favorites…but still.) And then you went and added rum? That’s pure genius, my friend! I definitely need to make this one happen…and soon. Hope you have fun hanging with the friends! Make sure to save them some pretzel bark, mmkay? 🙂
Hahahaha, rum and me are practically besties, so I try to add it whenever appropriate 🙂
Luckily for me my friends have a gluten allergy, which means I can eat all the bark, and remake the recipe with pecans and almonds! It’s a win-win!
If I can find gluten free pretzels I will give this a whirl for my dad who loves rum. Enjoy your visit with your friends 🙂
SWEET! You can swap almonds and other nuts for the pretzels too! Unless your pop has a nut allergy, then he’s screwed 😀
I totally agree–nothing beats the salty sweet combo. I need to try this, like, today for breakfast :). Pretzels and chocolate are a match made in heaven. Add some rum and it’s just a whole new level of perfection!
Sigh, I wish I had some bark left for breakfast but it’s gone. I couldn’t stop eating it so I sent the rest of the bark to Kieran’s work so his co-workers can
prevent me from eating itenjoy it. 🙂You’ve got a combination going on here that would get me into serious trouble. Sweet and salty is my thing and toffee is one of my favorite things on the planet. Addicting is an understatement!
Thanks, Marcie! OMG, I love me some toffee! The bark is gone now but I think I’m making more this weekend for a party. YAY!!
agh i think i’ve been seeing too many things w charcoal in it, because i read “addictive” as “activated” at first. ack. BUT ANYWAYS, this sounds ridiculously decadent and caramelly and salty and chocolatey, aka everything i want during the holidays.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Introducing Activated Pretzel Bark with organic locally grown charcoal! BLEH! But yeah, the bark is crazy delicious!
Swap you some of this bark for some bagels Christina?? Deal or no deal?!
Oh man, I want to deal SO bad but the bark is already in my belly. The moment I make another batch you are the FIRST person I call 🙂
Sounds fantastic Christina! Love the addition of rum. No wonder it’s addictive 😉 Pinning for later!!
Hahahaha, right? Rum makes just about everything taste better 🙂
Hope you love it!
