Welcome, I’m happy you’re here
Hi, I’m Christina, the writer, adventurer, food developer, and food photographer behind Shock Munch. My goal is to make shockingly delicious food as straight forward and simple food.
More About Me
I’m originally from Crystal Lake, Illinois. I moved to Chicago during my twenties working in blues clubs and other restaurant institutions. While living in Chicago I tried my hand at stand up comedy for awhile, touring parts of the US and UK.
During my tenure in Chicago, I met my husband Kieran. Kieran is originally from Rhode Island. He moved to Chicago after graduating from college in Indiana. I fell in love with Kieran quickly, he is the sweetest and funniest person. See, I love to laugh. I have the sense of humor of a 12-year-old boy. The more inappropriate, the harder I laugh. Luckily for me, Kieran is insanely funny. He’s the quiet, shy kinda funny that sneaks up on you. If you and I are engaging in a conversation, Kieran is the casual observer, but then he’ll suddenly say something profoundly funny as we double over with laughter.
Kieran and I now live in Portland, in an adorable 1938 Tudor style home. We live with our dog, Homie Barkybottoms, and our cat Myron Fuzzypants. We’ve been living life to the fullest by camping, hiking, and snowshoeing all over the beautiful Pacific Northwest. When we’re not out adventuring, you can usually find me in the kitchen or helping Kieran build stuff.
About The Blog
The name Shock Munch originated from a camping trip. A few year ago Kieran and I went camping in Wisconsin with some good buddies of ours. For the life of me, I can’t remember what we ate around the campfire, but I do remember someone saying it was shockingly good to munch on. My friend suddenly said, Shock Munch in a funny voice. I retorted by saying Shock Munch in the best Eric Cartman voice I could muster.
I’m a 40-year-old woman who can imitate Eric Cartman’s voice and Pee Wee Herman’s laugh to a T. I know you’re all envious of my sick skillz.
Shock Munch is a smorgasbord of posts. Although the emphasis is on food, I also share DIY projects, posts about our latest adventures, and updates on our lives.
I developed all the recipes on the site unless otherwise noted. I’m not the healthiest eater in the world but I try to make all of my food from scratch with no artificial ingredients. I strive to make shockingly delicious food as simple as possible. My food typically feeds 2-4 people, sometimes more.
About The Photography
All the food photography on this site is done by me. I’m growing as a photographer so you should see that reflected in my work. My current focus is to provide simple recipes and simple yet stunning photography.
