Michele’s Chili Chocolate Cookies (with video)

This cookie recipe comes from Chef John at foodwishes.com.

You’ll notice I post food from Chef John a lot.  I discovered his blog, Food Wishes, awhile back and have been obsessed ever since.  Not only does the man have a good sense of humor, but his recipes are out of this world delicious.  I also love his filming style.  Chef John does not appear in his cooking videos because the food is the star of the show.  With his filming style, you really get to see what the cooking process and techniques LOOK like.  I feel when some bloggers feature themselves in their own cooking videos, you can’t really see what’s going on.  Sure, they pan the camera down to give you a quick look of what’s happening inside their skillet, but it’s not the same.  Chef John’s videos are a great learning tool for all cooks, whether you are just staring out or a seasoned pro.  I’m also not a huge fan of bloggers who post pictures of themselves posing with their finished recipes.  Yes, the duck face you are making is adorable, but what does that have to do with your food?

Speaking of food being the star of the show, lets talk about these cookies!!!  These magical cookies are Chef John’s wife’s recipe and they are fanflippingtastic!!!!  How can you go wrong with cookies that feature both chocolate AND booze??  This yummy cookie has Kahlua in it!!  Kahlua and chocolate….doesn’t that sound like a match made in cookie heaven?  I almost wish I had a bar of chocolate and a glass of Kahlua right now….I would dunk the chocolate bar into the Kahlua…..cookies in milk style.

These cookies also feature black pepper and chili pepper.  I heard chili/black pepper enhance the flavor of chocolate, so I was really excited to try these out.  Chef John is right, you don’t taste the chili/black pepper at all.  All you get is the pure amazing taste of chocolate.

I have made these cookies for a number of work/friend potlucks and everyone raved about them.  You will get some compliments if you make these for a party…..for sure!
