“Welcome to manhood honey,” Kieran chuckled as I complained about the video game Mass Effect.
What is Mass Effect? Mass Effect is a trilogy of science fiction action role-playing third person shooter video games, that takes place in outer space.
I’m obsessed with Mass Effect. I’ve beaten all 3 games, 3 times, within a year. If a Mass Effect AA group exists, I should probably join. I love Mass Effect so much, for my birthday, Kieran photoshopped this card for me:
^^ Hahahahaha, look at my face!^^
Anyway, I just finished beating the 2nd installment of the Mass Effect trilogy (for the 2nd time) and it didn’t go as planned. Mass Effect is fun because your decisions and conversations determine your remaining game play. The actions and conversations you have with other characters in the game can make you a hero or kind of a dick. I like to play as the hero first, beat the game, then RE-play as the dick………who am I kidding, I’m always the hero, I can’t help myself!
Once, while playing the game Red Dead Redemption, I yelled at Kieran because he was killing some animals, for no reason other than sport. Kieran would laugh and ask, “You know the animals are virtual creatures and no actual animals were harmed in the making of this game….right?” I would fold my arms in a huff and grunt, “Yeah I know….it’s just…..you know……it’s so mean!” Then we’d both laugh at my ridiculousness.
Anyway, in Mass Effect you can pursue a relationship with one or two of the characters. Mass Effect is cool because you can play the main character as a man or a woman, and pursue either a gay or straight relationship. I chose to play as the man who wanted to seduce the ladies….you know….why not? My point is, the game is awesome because you can “get freaky” with another character in the game. That is, if you play your cards right…..turns out I played mine wrong, allllllll wrong. I saved one girl’s life so she wanted to boink me, but I had eyes for another girl, who wanted nothing to do with me! Turns out I didn’t say the right things to this girl and she put me in the “friend zone.” THE FRIEND ZONE!?!?!
“That’s bullshit Miranda”, I hollered at the TV, “I’m Commander Sheppard of the S.S. Normandy! After all I did for you, you could at LEAST give me your sweet sweet lovin’!” Overhearing the commotion Kieran came in, laughed, patted me on the head, and said, “Welcome to manhood honey!”
(Note: when I played the game for a 3rd time, a few months later, I eventually scored with Miranda……it was triumphant)
I just goggled Mass Effect and found out they are working on Mass Effect 4……..my……mind…..is………blown.
All this reminiscing fills me with the urge to play all 3 games again…..excuse me for a few months will you?
While I’m nerding out to my favorite video game, let me leave you with a delicious recipe!
(I think my segways are getting worse and worse….HA!)
Chicken lettuce wraps are the bomb, right? You get a delicious chicken filling without the cumbersome carbs of rice!
This recipe calls for fresh ginger. Please don’t substitute ground ginger, it’s not the same. I know, ginger root looks gnarly and intimidating, but all you need to peel it is a spoon! Here’s a YouTube link with a tutorial showing you how.
I was ecstatic making this recipe because I FINALLY got to use my salad spinner! I love how quickly it dries off lettuce/greens after you’ve thoroughly wash them. It sure beats drying off each leaf with a paper towel, or violently shaking the leaves to remove excess water! Such a cool kitchen tool, I’m happy I have mine!
These chicken lettuce wraps are extremely delicious, and once you do the prep work, very quick to make! I had this bad boy on the table in approx 20 minutes! Perfect for a weeknight meal! Enjoy!
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil (you can use olive/vegetable oil)
- 1 pound ground chicken

- 1 head butter lettuce, thoroughly rinsed and drained.
- Cilantro, for garnish
- Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste.
- Extra soy sauce and sriracha sauce for dipping/drizzling (optional)
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken and cook until browned but not cooked through, approx 4-5 minutes (be sure to break the chicken into small pieces as it cooks).
- Add the onion, celery, garlic, ginger, vinegar, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, and sriracha. Stir the mixture until everything is well coated. Continue cooking until the chicken is completely cooked (about 1-3 minutes more)
- Stir in the green onions.
- Pour in the sesame oil, and add salt and pepper to taste.
- Spoon the chicken in the center of the lettuce leaves, garnish with cilantro, and drizzle with extra sriracha and soy sauce (if you desire) and serve.
