I think we’ve all come to the conclusion I like booze based on the last few recipes I’ve posted. I’ve recently made Frosty’s Secret Sauce, Addictive Buttered Rum Pretzel Bark, and Tortellini with Roasted Tomato Vodka Sauce. Heck, I’ve even made Sangria Jelly which is literally jelly made out of an entire bottle of wine!
I admit I enjoy drinking. I enjoy attending and throwing parties where I get to consume a good cocktail. I’ve never met a cocktail I didn’t like. A lot of my family and friends are cocktails lovers too. When we get together for Christmas we have a drunken, hilarious good time. Actually, now that I think about it, anytime we get together we have a drunken, hilarious good time. It’s what we do.
December is a fun month of celebration, no matter which holiday you observe. People around the world gather for their favorite holiday festivities to celebrate their chosen deities and enjoy each other’s company. December is chalk full of office parties, friend gatherings, and family get-togethers. When we’re invited to one of those parties, we don’t like to show up empty-handed. Normally we bring a bottle of wine or booze for the host for being gracious and inviting us into their home. Rather than show up with the hosts’ favorite booze, personalize said booze with the hosts’ favorite flavors!
DIY Infused Liquor is as easy to put together as it is easy to customize. Here are a few examples of infused liquors you can give away as gifts:
VANILLA RUM – One of my favorite cocktails is rum and coke. Actually, my drink of choice is rum and water with a splash of coke and vanilla rum makes the cocktail taste even better!
2-4 vanilla beans cut in half
Pour the rum into a cute container then add the vanilla beans. Close the lid and store in a cool dry place. Gently tip the container upside down on occasion to ensure the rum is fully infused.
Infuse the rum for 5-7 days or until the desired vanilla flavor has been achieved. Strain the rum and enjoy.
LEMON VODKA– Lemon drop martinis are as refreshing as they are tasty. If you know someone who likes lemon infused cocktails, this would be the perfect gift for them!
1-2 lemons, sliced
Pour the vodka into a cute container then add the lemons. Close the lid and store in a cool dry place. Gently tip the container upside down on occasion to ensure the vodka is fully infused.
Infuse the vodka for 2-3 days or until the desired lemon flavor has been achieved. Strain the vodka and enjoy.
SPICY VODKA – My Dad and sister love a good Bloody Mary. If you and your family party hard during the holiday’s this gift will be the hair of the dog to help them recover the following day.
Note – some people like their Bloody Marys spicer than others. The longer you infuse the peppers, the hotter the vodka will become. Be sure to taste the vodka each day until it reaches the spiciness your recipient enjoys most. If you are not sure how spicy to make the vodka, add the peppers the day before you give it as a gift. Tell the recipient to taste the vodka every day until the desired spiciness is reached. It’s better to be safe than sorry for this one.
1-2 jalapenos or other hot peppers
Pour the vodka into a cute container then add the peppers. Close the lid and store in a cool dry place. Gently tip the container upside down on occasion to ensure the vodka is fully infused.
Infuse the vodka for 2-3 days or until the desired spiciness has been achieved. Strain the vodka and enjoy.
COCONUT RUM – Remember Frosty’s Secret Sauce? The Secret Sauce was made with Malibu (coconut) Rum and hot chocolate. Now you can make your very own secret sauce from scratch!
1/2 – 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut (you can use toasted too)
Pour the rum into a cute container then add the coconut. Close the lid and store in a cool dry place. Gently tip the container upside down on occasion to ensure the rum is fully infused.
Infuse the rum for 5-7 days or until the desired coconut flavor has been achieved. Strain the rum and enjoy.
The cocktail pairings for the DIY Infused Liquors were only suggestions. You can customize them in countless ways. It’s a fun, creative, and an extremely easy way to give the gift of holiday cheer to your loved ones. Simply pour the liquor into an adorable container, fill it with liquor and your favorite flavoring, tie a ribbon around it, and make a cute little tag. Done!
You can get adorable containers just about anywhere. You can use mason jars, square hermetic glass bottles, or anything you think is cute. Target, the thrift store, and the Container Store have awesome affordable options. Be sure to wash the bottles beforehand!
Just remember the longer you infuse the liquor, the stronger the taste will become. How long to infuse the liquor will depend on what ingredients you chose to flavor the booze. The vanilla and coconut took about a week until I loved the taste, however, the lemon and peppers took a couple of days. If you are not sure how strong or faint your recipient likes their flavored liquors, infuse the booze the day before you give it as a gift. I like to tell people, I know you love Bloody Marys but I wasn’t sure how spicy you like them. I infused the liquor with the peppers yesterday to be safe. Taste the vodka every day until it reaches the spiciness you enjoy. Your recipient will be happy to taste their homemade flavored vodka every day – trust me on this.
Alright, folks, that’s a wrap on today’s post! Christmas is less than two weeks away so button up those holiday wish lists for your loved ones. If you have a family member or friend who enjoys a good cocktail, whip up some DIY Infused Liquor and infuse them with holiday cheer for days to come.
