The term “Shock Munch” came from a camping trip. When my friends and I camp, we love to eat some serious grub. We had steak marinated in bourbon and brown sugar, with ginger/garlic/soy sauce infused green beans. As we sat around the camp fire, completely in awe of our delicious creation, we joked that the delicious food was a shock to our mouth. I yelled out, in my best Eric Cartman voice, “SHOCK MUNCH!” We laughed so hard the term stuck with me. “Shock Munch” not only sounds hilarious, but it encompasses the very idea of a crazy delicious recipe….that’s so good to munch on….it’s shocking.
I’m not a chef, but a home cook. I’m just a food enthusiast, who loves learning about, and turning people onto, new recipes. In fact, I’m addicted to finding new recipes to make for me, my husband, my friends, and family. For me, there is something therapeutic about dicing up garlic, simmering a homemade stock, or grilling steak, while drinking wine and dancing around the kitchen to my favorite music.
I enjoy making/eating real food….nothing diet. Fun fact, I quit drinking diet coke and I lost 20 lbs in a matter of months! I do my best to avoid processed food that contains high fructose corn syrup, MSG, artificer sweeteners, and sodium nitrate/nitrite. I read your body spends so much time trying to breakdown these unnatural substances, that it can’t get to the other ingredients, which automatically get stored as fat. I have brought my cooking back to the basics and cook almost everything from scratch now (except for pasta…maybe one day). I feel enormously better knowing exactly what’s going into my food.
